Newark – On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, Delaware Probation and Parole Officers assigned to the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force assisted the New Castle County Drug Unit, in executing a search warrant at a residence located in the area of Coventry Lane, Newark, DE. After receiving multiple complaints and conducting two months of investigations officers determined that illegal drug sales had been occurring at the residence. Upon their arrival, Officers apprehended Kathy Duke, 31, without incident. A second resident, Gary Steadman, 51, was stopped by detectives nearby in University Plaza Shopping Center, Newark. At that time a second search warrant was executed on his vehicle.

The search of the residence and car turned up 136 grams of heroin, 29 grams of marijuana, 2 grams of cocaine, and $782.00 in suspected drug sale proceeds.

Gary Steadman and Kathy Duke were arrested and charged with four counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 5 Quantity, four counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 4 Quantity, and four counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree. They were then arraigned at JP Court 11. Gary Steadman was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of $448,000.00 cash bail. Kathy Duke was committed to the Delores Baylor Correctional Institution in default of $448,000.00 cash bail as well.
